Electric Lawnmowers
Electric Lawn mowers
Cheap and user friendly, electric lawnmowers are available in various sizes and are ideal for mowing smaller lawns up to half a tennis court in size. For lawns larger lawns, it’s worth considering a petrol lawnmower.
Electric lawnmowers are lighter than petrol mowers, they are also quieter to use and cheaper to maintain. There is a trade off in terms of power and durability but this won’t be an issue for people who just want to cut a small lawn a couple of times a week.
Electric Rotary Lawnmowers
These are the most basic electric mowers available and are perfect for maintaining most types of domestic lawn. If you don’t fancy physically pushing the mower, there are self propelled electric lawnmowers available which will help reduce the effort required to mow larger areas and sloping gardens. The Bosch Rotak range of rotary mowers have proved popular in recent years and are available in a choice of cutting widths depending on the size of your lawn.
Battery Powered Cordless Lawnmowers
Up until a few years ago, battery powered cordless lawnmowers were heavy, cumbersome machines with poor battery life and performance. Thanks to recent advances in battery technology, cordless lawnmowers are now a real alternative offering the quiet operation of an electric lawnmower without the restrictions caused by the power cable. Powered by lithium batteries, the Bosch Rotak Li cordless lawnmowers are without doubt the leading cordless models currently available.
Flymo & Electric Hover Mowers
An electric hover lawnmower is ideal for mowing awkward areas of lawn where it’s not practical to mow in straight lines or on slopes. Because they don’t have wheels, hover lawnmowers can be maneuvered in any direction. For larger areas of lawn and vegetation, a petrol hover lawnmower is a better choice.
Some electric hover lawnmowers offer a grass collection box. This might sound a good idea but as the collection box fills with clippings, the mower will become heavier and may struggle to hover properly. Bear this in mind if you want grass collection capabilities as you may be better off with a standard electric wheeled rotary lawnmower.
Flymo, although famous for their hover lawnmowers, actually offer a number of wheeled rotary mowers that feature grass collection.
Electric Mulching Lawnmowers
Mulching mowers are designed to discharge the grass clippings back onto the surface of the lawn, adding nutrients and saving time and effort. Both petrol and electric mulching lawnmowers are available depending on the size of your lawn. It’s worth getting a mulching lawnmower that features a grass collection box so you have the option of collecting the clippings.
Electric Cylinder Lawnmowers
If you want the best finish, you’ll need an electric cylinder lawnmower. Cylinder lawnmowers cut the grass differently to rotary models but are only suitable for use on well maintained lawns free from bumps and dips. For the smallest lawns, it’s also worth looking at the manual hand propelled cylinder mowers.
