Petrol Self Propelled Rotary Lawnmowers
Self Propelled Rotary Lawnmowers
For mowing larger lawns and sloping gardens, a self propelled lawnmower can save you both time and physical effort. Because weight is not an important factor, self propelled lawnmowers provide a tougher construction, extra features and a wider cut without the extra effort required to push the machine. A hydrostatic drive will allow you to set a comfortable walking pace without altering blade speed.
Rear Roller or Four Wheels?
Self propelled mowers are available with either four wheels or a rear roller. A roller will create a smart striped effect on your lawn plus you’ll be able to run the lawnmower over the edge of beds and borders without the machine dropping and scalping the lawn. A split differential rear roller allows a tighter turning circle without damaging the lawn surface.
On bumpy ground however, a roller will make the lawnmower jump around and difficult to control. For rougher terrain, a four wheeled self propelled lawnmower will provide a smoother ride than a rear roller machine.
Lawnmower Size
Average sized lawns require a deck width of around 16-18”. Larger lawns up to the size of two tennis courts are best tackled with a wider 22” lawnmower. For even larger lawns, it’s worth considering a ride on lawnmower or lawn tractor.
High Quality Lawns
For the best possible finish, consider a petrol cylinder lawnmower. Due to the differences in the way rotary and cylinder mowers cut, high quality ornamental lawns are best maintained with a cylinder lawnmower.
Garden & Lawn Contractors
For regular garden maintenance work, a self propelled petrol machine is the tool of choice for most contractors. Some of the popular models include the Lawnflite Pro range , the Hayter Ranger and the Honda HRX series. Although these machines are designed with the commercial user in mind, they also represent a good choice for the discerning home user.
